Christmas is going to be here before we know it, and as it features all my most treasured things (friends, family, and food!) it’s my favourite time of year. However, as we edge closer towards the busy festive season, it’s easy to lose sight of what’s important at this time of year.
Thankfully conscious consumerism is on the rise and shoppers are seeking gifts with purpose and passion. Mindful shopping means consciously thinking about the choices we make when purchasing gifts. Taking some time to plan, prepare and think carefully about what we buy to reduce waste.
Speaking at London Fashion Week Men's show Dame Vivienne Westwood said people should buy fewer clothes to help protect the environment.
"My message is, 'Buy less, choose well, make it last.’”
"It's [about] quality, not quantity, not landfill."
Shopping locally is just one great way to start thinking mindfully about purchases. You can pick up one of a kind items while supporting creatives and entrepreneurs in your area. This helps keep skills local, encourages creativity and leads to a more sustainable future.
So for those of you who are just starting, or others still struggling to find that perfect gift for someone who is hard to buy for... I hope you can find a brief moment in this busy period to consider conscious gifting. Small steps taken by thoughtful consumers really can make all the difference.
